What happened to Marimar Díaz, Miguel Ángel Blanco's last girlfriend: her life today after ETA
The woman who was the partner of the PP councilor murdered in Ermua lives in a Catalan town, is married, and has a 16-year-old daughter
More than two decades have passed since Spain stood up to terrorist horror. On July 10, 1997, the ETA group kidnapped PP councilman Miguel Ángel Blanco Garrido (Ermua, 1968). After "one hundred hours of anguish," the criminal organization ended up murdering the young politician at just 29 years old.
His murder unleashed a wave of outrage in Spanish society and gave rise to what became known as the "spirit of Ermua." It also forever marked a family from this town in Biscay and a young woman unknown to the public. We are talking about Marimar Díaz González (Ermua, 1973), Miguel Ángel Blanco's last romantic partner.
But what has become of her?
Marimar Díaz's Current Life, Miguel Ángel Blanco's Last Girlfriend
August 1997. A month had passed since the terrorist group ETA ended the life of councilman Miguel Blanco. At that time, the politician's family was trying to recover after the terrible murder of the young politician, just like Marimar Díaz, his last romantic partner.

The young woman tried to keep a low profile in front of the press. However, everyone wanted to know how the last girlfriend of the Partido Popular councilman was doing.
From that moment on, life in Ermua became unbearable for Marimar Díaz. The young woman was the victim of gossip about her. She was singled out and heavily criticized, according to sources close to the Biscayan town.
She was also accused of keeping a romantic relationship with the then president of the Basque PP, Carlos Iturgaiz. These rumors originated because, at that time, Marimar told him she wanted to leave Ermua.
In this scenario, Marimar Díaz decided to break ties with the Biscayan town andtook refuge in a town near Barcelona.
However, the exact location of this town is unknown. In this town, Marimar lives in an apartment located in a residential development on the outskirts of the aforementioned town.
There, Marimar enjoys a quiet life with her family. In 2007, she married a man named Jaume, who works as a sales representative for a Catalan company. The couple had a daughter who is 16 years old.
Since she left the town of Ermua, Marimar has kept her personal life private. She has not given any statements. She only participated in the tribute that Miguel Ángel Blanco received ten years after his death in Ermua.
As for her work situation, it is known that, when she arrived in Barcelona, Marimar started working at the construction company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC). However, it is unknown whether she currently keeps her position in this business group.

As Elcierredigital.com has been able to confirm, she doesn't have public profiles on social media.
In 2016 Marimar suffered another of the hardest blows of her life. Her mother, Carmen González, died at 74 years old.
Marimar's mother was traveling in Segovia with a group of excursionists. She had left Ermua and had settled in Reina (Badajoz). There, she was known by the neighbors as "Carmen, la de Ermua."
Just like her mother, Marimar stopped going regularly to this Biscayan town after the death of Miguel Ángel Blanco. A murder that cut her life short.
A Kidnapping That "Paralyzed Marimar Díaz's Life"
No one can forget the image of young Marimar Díaz hugging her sister-in-law Marimar Blanco on one of the balconies of Ermua's city hall. Her face was distraught, since, like all of Spain, she had hopes that the terrorist group ETA would not achieve their goal and would release her boyfriend, Miguel Ángel Blanco, alive.

During the three days of the councilman's captivity, the young woman, who was 24 years old, was an essential support for the Blanco Garrido family.
She participated in the mobilizations. She also joined the vigils that were organized to demand the release of Miguel Ángel. Both had grown up in Ermua and, as children, started their romantic relationship.
They had planned to buy a house and a car. Likewise, they had planned to celebrate their wedding in December 1997.
But a kidnapping cut short the young couple's plans. On July 13, life came to a halt for Marimar Díaz. That day, the news of the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco, the love of her life, was confirmed.
On July 14, 1997, Marimar attended the funeral. She carried with her the drumsticks that Miguel Ángel Blanco used to play the drums with Póker, his music group. At this event, the media captured how the then Prince Felipe de Borbón offered his condolences to the woman from Biscay.
A "Silenced Victim"
After Miguel Ángel's death, Marimar gradually withdrew from the spotlight.
She only gave two interviews to the magazines ¡Hola! and Interviú. She was accused of having received financial compensation for both appearances. This was denied by "voices" close to her who stated that "Marimar went through a very hard time."

They say that the Blanco Garrido family would not have agreed with the reports Marimar gave. They say their relationship became strained and, in the end, they lost contact.
Tired of the gossip and hurtful comments about her, Marimar decided to "break" with her life in Ermua. Almost three decades after the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco, the woman from Biscay doesn't want to remember that episode that unleashed the outrage of an entire country. Although, for many, Marimar Díaz will always be the "silenced victim" of the murder from which the white hands against ETA were born.
