Jaime Alfonsín, great Spaniard

Felipe VI bña bla

King Felipe VI (Madrid, 1968) has granted his first noble titles to commemorate the anniversary of his coronation. Among the personalities who have received this honorary recognition is Jaime Alfonsín Alfonso (Lugo, 1956). The former head of the Royal Household has been named Marquis of Alfonsín and Grandee of Spain.

The jurist from Lugo was a pivotal figure in Felipe VI's life. For nearly twenty years, he was in charge of the Secretariat of the Prince of Asturias. Likewise, Alfonsín played a key role in Juan Carlos I's return to Spain after, in August 2020, he announced his departure to Abu Dhabi.

In 2023, Jaime Alfonsín returned to the media spotlight after his "replacement" as head of the Royal Household. A discreet departure, just like his career alongside the Spanish royal family.

Jaime Alfonsín's Current Life, Grandee of Spain

January 2024. The Spanish royal family had "closed" one of their most complex years in terms of media attention. The alleged romance that Queen Letizia had kept with her former brother-in-law, economist Jaime del Burgo or the increased presence of Juan Carlos I in Spain after his "exile" fueled the controversy that put the Royal Household in the spotlight.

This circumstance led King Felipe VI to undertake a series of changes at the Zarzuela Palace. One of them was Jaime Alfonsín's "departure" as head of the Royal Household. He held this position from 2014 to 2023. The position vacated by the jurist from Lugo was filled by the diplomat from Zaragoza, Camilo Villarino.

Two years after Jaime Alfonsín's departure, Felipe VI has granted him the noble title of Marquis of Alfonsín with the status of Grandee of Spain.
