Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit make a desperate move: confirmed

The Norwegian Crown surprises with a strategic move at a key moment after the concern for the Queen

The Norwegian Royal House is in a delicate stage full of challenges. Queen Sonja's health has raised concern among family members, and Princess Märtha Louise faces complications due to the illness she suffers from. Added to this is the controversial case of Marius Borg, which has put the institution under scrutiny and further complicated the atmosphere within the royal family.

Amid this situation, Princess Ingrid has emerged as a key figure, showing her unconditional support for her father, while also consolidating her role in the Crown. The role and future of her younger brother, Prince Sverre Magnus, have remained in the background, shrouded in some mystery. However, the latest signs indicate that this could change very soon and that his institutional prominence could increase.

A Figure So Far Discreet

At 20 years old, Sverre Magnus is third in the line of succession after his father Haakon and his sister Ingrid. Physically, he resembles his great-grandfather, King Olav, but his role in the royal family has been less defined. His public appearances have been scarce, and his temporary move to Trondheim marked a step toward his independence, without further official details.

On May 27, Prince Sverre Magnus will attend an official event alone, a tribute to the Norwegian team that participated in the 2025 Special Winter Olympics. This will be the first time the young prince acts without family company in a public activity, a milestone in his institutional career. His presence suggests that the Royal House is exploring new possibilities for his official integration.

On May 17, Prince Sverre was present at the National Day celebration in the Royal Palace Square, actively participating from the street and the balcony. This year he occupied a space he did not have in 2024, indicating greater involvement in official events. His youth allows him to be a support during at least three reigns: the current one of his grandfather Harald, his father Haakon's, and his sister Ingrid's future reign.

Ingrid's View toward Her Siblings

When she turned 18 in 2022, Ingrid dedicated emotional words to her brothers Sverre and Marius Borg. "Dear Marius and Magnus, you are my safety net, I know I can always turn to you if something happens to me," she said emotionally. Her speech reflects the family value and mutual support that exists in the Norwegian Royal House.

In many royal houses, the heir's siblings are key, though discreet, figures in the institution. Their presence provides stability and support, as seen with Anne of England or Benedikte of Denmark. Sverre Magnus could assume a similar role, helping to strengthen the Norwegian monarchy in times of uncertainty.
