Buckingham Palace gives the worst news to Prince William: He is left without him

The Prince of Wales, William, downcast and defeated after his exclusion was confirmed following the death of a relative

The relationship between Prince William and his family has been marked by tensions and distance over the past few years. Recently, a new piece of news has once again placed the heir to the throne at the center of controversy, and it involves his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes. It has been revealed that William will not receive anything from Fellowes's inheritance, a fact that has caused surprise and caused speculation in the United Kingdom and beyond.

The fortune and the distribution of the inheritance

Lord Robert Fellowes passed away almost a year ago, leaving a fortune valued at £1.5 million, equivalent to about 1.8 million euros. However, neither Prince William nor his brother Harry are listed in the will as beneficiaries. The main beneficiary is Lady Jane Spencer, Robert's wife and sister of the late Princess Diana.

The funeral and the tense family reunion

In August 2024, William and Harry attended the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes, but far from being a cordial reunion, the atmosphere was tense and distant. "Princes William and Harry sat separately and did not look at each other at any time," stated Michael Cole, a royal expert and former BBC correspondent, with clear emphasis. The witness detailed that the tension between the brothers was so intense that "it cut the air," and neither yielded to improve the atmosphere.

The two sons of Charles III had not seen each other for a while, and the occasion did not manage to ease the differences: Cole highlighted the "cold atmosphere" between them. "If Harry expected this secret trip to England and his sudden appearance to freeze the tensions, he was greatly disappointed. William avoided eye contact and did not acknowledge Harry," he concluded.

Destination of the estate and legacies

Fellowes's estate includes £1,517,418 net, in addition to £4,000 allocated to cover legal expenses. The will includes donations to various entities such as, for example: £1,000 for a local hospice. Another £500 for St. Mary's Church, where the funeral was held, and £5,000 for Eton College, the school William and Harry attended.

The bulk of the inheritance went to Lady Jane Spencer, marking the absence of the nephews in the distribution. Lord Robert was an important advisor to the late Queen Elizabeth II: he worked in her private office from 1977 and was her private secretary between 1990 and 1999. His role was essential in the royal structure for decades.

Reverend Dan Tansley, in charge of the service, lamented that the brothers did not take advantage of the funeral to reconcile. "I don't remember them speaking to each other, although they did talk with other family members and friends," he commented. "The deceased would have wished for them to settle their differences on that occasion," the pastor concluded.
