The story of Jaime Anglada, the 'support' for Queen Letizia in Mallorca

The Mallorcan musician and his wife, Pilar Aguiló, are part of the circle of friends of the royals on the Balearic island

The kings of Spain not only have an official agency on the island of Mallorca. They also have a leisure agency.

Felipe VI enjoys long days at sea. Doña Letizia enjoys walks through the historic center. The sovereign also "sets" her schedule by attending events such as the closing of the Atlántida Film Festival.

It should not be forgotten that the monarch is a great supporter of culture. In Mallorca, she doesn't neglect her passion. In fact, she has not built friendships in the nautical field.

She has done so in sectors such as theater, cinema, or music. In the latter, there is a figure who has become one of the greatest "supporters" of Doña Letizia on the island.

This is the Mallorcan musician Jaime Anglada. He is known for being a true reference in composition on the Balearic island.

In fact, last week the monarch attended one of Anglada's concerts. Felipe VI was just another member of the audience gathered at the facilities of Real Club Náutico de Palma.

He did not hesitate to sing the song "Un velero llamado libertad". A historic song from José Luis Perales's repertoire. In 2015, Anglada surprised his followers after the duet he formed with actress Carolina Cerezuela.

The performer, like her husband, the former Mallorcan tennis player Carlos Moyá, are two regulars at the reception the monarchs hold every year for Balearic society at Marivent.

But how was this friendship, which has become unbreakable, forged?

Jaime Anglada's friendship with the kings of Spain

Although Jaime Anglada has become one of the queen's greatest supporters, it was Felipe VI who fostered this friendship.

The monarch and the Mallorcan have known each other for more than two decades.  Both were brought together by sailing. This is a discipline the monarch has practiced since his youth.

The team with which Felipe VI participated in Barcelona 92, the son of Juan Carlos I began to race with the CAM (Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo) team.

It was there that he met the musician.  For 17 years, Anglada raced alongside the monarch.

The bond was not limited to the open sea. A great friendship also developed between them.

"His Majesty is an excellent skipper and an excellent companion. He is a man who doesn't sail or train all year, but when it comes time to take the helm of the boat, he has no problem at all," the Mallorcan musician revealed.

Anglada has participated in numerous regattas, such as the Copa del Rey de Vela, and for sixteen years he has been part of the CAM crew, a boat skippered by Don Felipe.

The friendship between the two has endured over time. The monarch never misses the concert Anglada gives every August at Real Club Náutico de Palma to mark the end of the Copa del Rey competition. Nor do Doña Letizia or their daughters.

A friendship now shared with Queen Letizia

Felipe VI has not only supported Anglada's musical career. The monarch has done so as well. A strong bond has also been established between them.

As between the sovereign and Pilar Aguiló, Jaime Anglada's wife. In fact, the monarch recently visited the business Aguiló owns in Palma together with Doña Sofía and her two daughters.

This is an establishment called "Nutrición Activa". A place run by Aguiló.  Anglada's wife is a pharmacist and nutritionist.

The rapport is remarkable. Doña Letizia is a great supporter of healthy eating and a very strict sports routine.

The couple has become one of the monarchs' greatest friendships. In fact, "Doña Letizia is very involved with one of the couple's daughters, who has a disability."

Together, they share dinners, concerts, and a rapport that the monarch is delighted with. "Doña Letizia prefers to go to Jaime and Pilar's house. A humble and normal house. She avoids the posh friends of King Felipe VI. She feels more comfortable in a different kind of environment," they say.

The story of Jaime Anglada

Jaime Anglada has music in his blood. The musician was born in Mallorca on September 13, 1972. At age 8, he discovered his passion for music, starting with the saxophone and then switching to the guitar.

At age 13, he composed his first song. He grew up inspired by greats of rock and folk like Bob Dylan. Also by Bruce Springsteen.

At age 20, he began playing in bars in Mallorca, standing out with his guitar and harmonica.

In 1994, he formed his first rock band with local musicians, showcasing his skill with the guitar and his voice.

Two years later, he released his first album, Dentro de la Noche, produced by Roger Eno. This work took him on international tours and positioned him in the music scene.

Empezar de Nuevo would follow, with a harder sound. The lack of promotion from the record label led him to part ways amicably with Virgin.

After a five-year break, in 2003 he released Nunca Tendremos Graceland. This album includes his first song in Mallorcan, achieving success in Catalonia.

In 2005, he released Otra Canción de Carretera, an album with more mature lyrics. He continued with a two-year tour of Spain.

Anglada returned with a more rock and electric sound. This album is one of the best sounding live albums in his career.

In 2011, he released his first live album, capturing the energy of his Stereo tour. Four years later, he formed an unexpected duet with the Alicante actress Carolina Cerezuela called "Anglada Cerezuela."

His latest album to date, Temposinfónico, is a symphonic compilation of his best songs, recorded with musicians from the Orquesta Sinfónica de Baleares.
