Walmart smiles: they issue an alert to Costco customers in the United States

Costco, one of the most popular warehouse chains in the United States, stands out for offering bulk products at low prices. However, although its business model allows customers to save on large quantities, it is not always the most economical option. In fact, there are several products that cost more at Costco than at other chains, like Walmart or Target. Which ones are they? Here we tell you the details.

The price of quality: is it really cheaper at Costco?

One of Costco's great advantages is its famous private label, Kirkland, which usually offers competitive prices. However, not all products are that cheap. In fact, some basic items, like chicken, tomatoes, and fruits, have higher prices than in other supermarkets, even when bought in large quantities.

Kirkland chicken breast costs more than $3 per pound at Costco, while at Target, the Good & Gather brand offers a similar option for around $2.69. This difference may seem small, but as these are products we buy frequently, the savings can be significant when compared to other establishments.

Fresh products: a better option at other supermarkets?

Fruits and vegetables are also an area where Costco doesn't always win. Tomatoes at Costco, for example, are priced at nearly $2 per pound, with a 4-pound bag costing around $8. In contrast, at Target, you can get a pound of Roma tomatoes for just $1.19, a considerable difference.

Even Walmart offers lower prices than Costco on fresh products, and apples follow a similar trend. At Costco, a 4-pound package of Honeycrisp apples costs around $11, which equals $2.75 per pound. On the other hand, Target offers 3 pounds of Good & Gather brand apples for $7.39, that is, $2.46 per pound, which represents quite a bit more savings.

Other everyday products more expensive at Costco

Costco also has higher prices than other supermarkets on products we consume daily. A gallon of whole or low-fat milk from the Kirkland brand costs more than $4, while at Walmart and Target it can be found for significantly lower prices. For example, a gallon of whole milk from the Good & Gather brand at Target sells for just $1.99.

The 4-pound bag of Kirkland frozen whole strawberries is priced at $11.69 at Costco, while at Target, they cost only $9.29. The price difference is clear, making other supermarket chains a more economical option for consumers.

And what about the salmon?

Salmon is another product where Costco doesn't come out on top. In its store, Kirkland frozen salmon costs $12.39 per pound, while at Target, the price is $10.99 per pound, which means a considerable difference. Although Costco is known for its low prices, it is not always the cheapest option, and consumers must carefully evaluate their purchases.
