Special Announcement from Social Security Across America: Watch Out for May
Social Security Sends an Important Message to Millions of Beneficiaries in the United States: Pay Close Attention
Millions of citizens in the United States are keeping an eye on the upcoming Social Security payments. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has already published the schedule for May 2025. It's important to know the dates, amounts, and requirements to not miss any benefits you may be entitled to.
Pay Attention to the SSA: Checks to Be Delivered in the 2nd Half of May
During the second half of May, the SSA will send payments to beneficiaries according to their birth date. Wednesday, May 14 for those born between the 1st and the 10th or May 21 for those born from the 11th to the 20th. Wednesday, May 28 for those born between the 21st and the 31st.

Additionally, beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive a second payment on Friday, May 30. This is for the month of June, as June 1 falls on a weekend.
Requirements to Receive SSA Payments in the United States
To be eligible for Social Security benefits, certain requirements must be met: having accumulated 40 work credits. This is equivalent to having worked at least 10 years in jobs covered by Social Security.
You must meet the minimum age for the type of benefit requested and have applied for the corresponding benefit. It's important to note that SSI is designed for people with limited financial resources, adults over 65 years old, people with disabilities, and citizens with low income.
How Much Money Are You Entitled to in May?
The amounts vary according to the type of benefit and individual situation: for retirees, the average payment is $1,976 monthly. Regarding SSI, the maximum amount is $967 for one person, $1,450 for an eligible couple, and $484 for an essential person.

Meanwhile, for SSDI beneficiaries, the average payments are $1,580 for disabled workers alone. These amounts have been adjusted in 2025 due to the cost of living adjustment (COLA).
This Is How Social Security Payments Are Received
The majority of beneficiaries receive their payments via direct deposit into their bank accounts. However, those who still receive paper checks should be alert, as starting September 30, the Department of the Treasury will not issue paper checks for federal payments.
It's crucial for citizens to verify their eligibility, update their banking information, and keep an eye on the payment schedule. For more information, they can visit the official SSA website or create an account on My Social Security. Being informed and prepared ensures that citizens of the United States receive their Social Security checks without issues.
