Sam's Club is going after Costco and sends a message to its members: starting now
The unstoppable American retail giant
Sam's Club, one of the leading supermarket chains in the United States, has announced a radical change in its payment processing method. From now on, customers can pay for their purchases more quickly and easily through the Scan & Go feature in the store's mobile app. This new system promises to eliminate long checkout lines, one of the most common complaints among consumers.
How does the new system work?
Sam's Club's new payment method is completely digital. To use it, customers must download the Sam's Club app on their mobile phone from the app store. Once installed, they need to look for the Scan & Go icon in the menu and activate Automatic Location.

It is important to note that this service only works when the customer is physically inside the store. When starting their purchase, customers simply scan the products with their phone's camera, and these are automatically added to their virtual cart. At the end of the purchase, the system offers two payment options: pay directly through the app or use an exclusively designed Scan & Pay checkout.
Advantages of paying with Scan & Go
The Scan & Go system is designed to make the shopping process much faster and more efficient. Once everything has been scanned, users can proceed to pay from the app with a preloaded credit or debit card or add a new payment method.
Upon completing the payment, the app generates a unique QR code that the customer must show when leaving the store to confirm that they have paid for the purchase. If the customer chooses to pay at the exclusive Scan & Pay checkout, the app will provide a barcode that employees will scan to complete the transaction.

This innovation by Sam's Club aims to reduce wait times at checkouts and improve the shopping experience. Additionally, it offers customers greater convenience, as they won't have to wait in long lines or deal with the stress of crowds.
The evolution of Sam's Club and its new plans
This measure is part of a series of initiatives by Sam's Club to improve the customer experience. In October 2023, the chain opened its first cashier-less store in Grapevine, Texas, a move that reinforces its image as one of the most innovative retail chains. With the success of the pilot in that branch, it is now expected that this system will be implemented in more stores across the country.
The line-free shopping model is changing the way people shop. Sam's Club is adapting to the new needs of consumers, who seek speed and ease when paying. The implementation of Scan & Go could be a big step toward modernizing shopping in large warehouse chains.
