The government and the U.S. SSA are tired of warning: only a few days left, mandatory

The latest statement from the SSA puts thousands of citizens on alert: Don't waste any more time, do it for your own good

The government and the SSA of the United States have been tirelessly warning about this message. There are only a few days left to complete the mandatory electronic filing, and many people still don't realize that they have to complete it.

This time, it affects the use of heavy vehicles on the road. Specifically, we're talking about Form 2290, which all truckers must file by September 2, and it's not optional. The IRS and the SSA insist that the deadline is strict and that they must comply with it.

Ssa and the US government won't warn again: only a few days left to send it

The electronic filing is the recommended way, and in some cases, it's mandatory. If you have heavy vehicles operating on the road, you must use the IRS electronic system, either on your own or through an authorized provider. The IRS requires compliance, and the SSA also sends reminders to those who haven't filed yet.

You must file your heavy vehicle use return (Form 2290) before September 2. This applies if your vehicles were in use during July and other dates stipulated for the fiscal period. If you're thinking there's still time, keep in mind that September 2 is coming soon and it's final.

If you have a heavy vehicle, take note of the IRS

The IRS offers recommendations to make the process easier, such as filing electronically is faster and safer. Filing manually by paper is slower and can cause delays and penalties. Also, if you report 25 or more vehicles, e-filing is mandatory, not optional.

According to the IRS, anyone who files by paper when they should do it by e-file may have their return rejected. Another important tip is that Schedule 1, which is your proof of payment, will arrive almost immediately if you do everything electronically.

That document is crucial for registering your vehicles. If, on the other hand, you do it by mail, you'll have to wait several weeks to receive it, and that could prevent you from completing procedures such as renewing license plates or registration.

Do you have the option to extend the filing?

It's also vital to stay alert for possible extensions. If your heavy vehicle was used for the first time in a month other than July, the deadline changes. For example, if you used it for the first time in August, you must file before September 30. The IRS provides a table with these dates according to the initial month of use.

The SSA and the IRS are clear. There are only a few days left to comply with the electronic filing, Form 2290, for the use of heavy vehicles on the road. If you're a trucker or run a business with heavy vehicles, don't let it pass by.
