Shock in Norway After the Mistake that Mette-Marit Can No Longer Hide: 'We Regret...'

In Norway, the last few days have been full of surprise and bewilderment, unleashing a series of unexpected reactions

In Norway, the last few hours have been marked by an unusual mix of shocks and confusion. What began as a preventive evacuation of the queen during her vacation ended up becoming one of the most embarrassing episodes for the press.

The queen, wife of King Harald, was airlifted to Oslo University Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties. Although her condition initially caused concern, the subsequent medical report reassured everyone: She was stable and ready to be discharged.

In fact, the next day, Queen Sonja was already in a condition to return to her official residence, after having been discharged. Although her health was stable, it was decided to cancel all the official commitments that the monarch had scheduled as a preventive measure.

The Mistake Mette-Marit Can No Longer Hide

However, the news that was supposed to bring relief to the citizens was overshadowed by a serious mistake. As reported by Hola, the news outlet VG, which is one of the most respected in Norway, mistakenly reported the death of Queen Sonja during a live broadcast.

Amid the coverage of her health condition, a screen caption announced her death. The confusion quickly spread, generating moments of great anguish both among the audience and in the closest circle of the Royal Family.

Tora Bakke Håndlykken, a news editor with a long career at the network, has taken responsibility for the mistake. "This is a very unfortunate error, and we deeply regret the incident. We have apologized directly to the Palace and apologize to our viewers."

"Mistakes like this shouldn't happen. We are already in the process of reviewing our internal procedures to ensure that something similar doesn't happen again."

The Last Words from Mette-Marit's Husband

The incident also occurred at a time of heightened media attention, with the public closely following Queen Sonja's condition. Although the Royal House hasn't directly mentioned the error, Crown Prince Haakon wanted to convey reassurance.

"There was reason to be concerned seeing that she was airlifted to the National Hospital. But she has received very good care there, and they are incredibly skilled. Fortunately, none of the tests conducted show anything serious."

As the hours pass, calm seems to have returned to Oslo, although the echo of the error still resonates. This episode reveals how fragile the line between information and misinformation can be, even in countries where the press has an impeccable reputation.
